Giant Rock - Landers, CA

There are many stories and legends about Giant Rock but even without those - one of the worlds largest freestanding boulders is a sight to see. About 7 stories tall, this boulder was once the roof to a cave house that was dug out from under it. Everyone has their own version of what really happened to the occupant. Some say he was a German spy or a smuggler, but he was definitely a unique desert character. He died under mysterious circumstances when authorities arrived to question him. Somehow the dynamite that he was storing in his cave home detonated, killing him and creating a mystery. Did the police set off the explosives with a tear gas canister or did he detonate the dynamite himself? You decide.
